Join us for Alcohol Awareness Week from 1 to 7 July to explore the theme of 'Understanding alcohol harm' in Somerset

Introduction

Introduction

Alcohol Awareness Week takes place from 1 to 7 July on the theme of ‘Understanding alcohol harm’. The week is an opportunity for us to think and talk more about alcohol harm in Somerset.

The Office for National Statistics recently reported a sharp rise in alcohol-related deaths of 10,048 in 2022. This is a 32.8% increase since 2019. Alcohol use escalated during the pandemic as many of us found ourselves stuck at home.

It’s estimated that 5,000 individuals in Somerset are alcohol dependent, with only 18% reaching out for assistance.

As we navigate through Alcohol Awareness Week, let’s remember that change starts with understanding. We know the complexity of this issue and are here to provide you with the knowledge and tools to help navigate it effectively.

By increasing our awareness of the harms associated with alcohol and supporting those in need, we can build a healthier, more compassionate community for everyone.
